Duhem Paul (Belgium)

1919-1999

He was born in Blandan (Turne, Belgium) in 1919.
He began doing drawing in 1989. He was one of the most significant outsider artists in Belgium. Obsessive painting of human face, schematically presented in characteristic posture and neck in various colours, mostly in similar combinations of geometrical surfaces in the upper part made him famous worldwide. His expressive, sincere, raw pictorial expression is in every way a metaphor of personal and collective alienation and his way to resist it, or at least, weak and only at the first sight brief comment. His variations of these two subjects in colouring and geometrical distribution of painted surfaces are inspiring and abundant with rhythm.
