There has always been discrepancy between the recognition of new forms of artistic speech and new aesthetic values. Certain time has always been necessary to gain confidence in the quality of work and to strengthen some elements of the new and begin their undisturbed public life. It is not easy to establish proper criteria for evaluation of the degree of the aesthetic in the atmosphere of unlimited freedom. Preoccupied with an expressive impulse, outsiders materialise their visions in an uncontrolled way which opposes to conventional contextualisation in the history of art. Outsiders often live on the margins of society and create their works neglecting the artistic criteria imposed by the society. Like many outsiders worldwide, outsiders, marginal and art brut artists in Serbia have been doing art for decades. In Serbian artistic reality these artists have gradually become the symbol of completely new standards in art. With their visions they have overcome the disappointments and failures of everyday life, thus transforming the lack of social life into artistic brilliance.
