Ilić Srboslav

Ilić Srboslav (Serbia)

Ilić Srboslav - Drvo života       He was born in Bjeljina (BIH) in 1955. He began doing painting paint in 1993. He resides in Belgrade. In the focus of the artist’s interest are Biblical parables. He paints miniatures on wooden background. The synthesis of his observations and beliefs and the whole Biblical thesaurus are basic motifs in his pictorial expression: saints, angels, archangels, Old Testament prophets, apostles and other New Testament figures in the continuous battle between the good and the evil, by original script of the author who profanes iconography, positioning Biblical parables in contemporary framework, thus creating unique metaphors and authentic comment of the Biblical stories with often humorous or ironic context.
Multitude of miniature figures usually occupies the whole surface of the wooden board. Unique harmony of form and contents, a line and a colour, certainly makes perfect balance within the composition, regardless to a fictitious disorder. The fear of empty space, the love for complementary relations of colours and warmth of wood as a ground for tireless groups of wandering figures in permanent action are basic characteristics of recognisable pictorial expression of this artist.
He received many awards and recognitions for his work; among them, most recent was "Special Recognition for the exhibited works" at the Sixteenth International Biennial MNMA in Belgrade, in 2013.
